Terms of Service

These are the terms for using Referr, which gives communities their own links for each campaign, for Discord invites and for websites, and shows which ones brought people in and who stayed. Signing in, adding Referr's bot to a server, or joining a server through a Referr link means you accept them.

Who runs Referr

Referr is run and sold by Erin Murray, an individual. "We" and "us" on this page mean Erin Murray. You can reach us at support@referr.fyi.

Keeping Referr running

We work to keep Referr up and counting, on a best-effort basis, and the status page shows whether it's working. We don't promise a set uptime. What we do promise is in the refund policy: if a problem on our side stops Referr counting your joins or clicks for more than a day, we refund that month. Features can change as Referr grows, and we say so on the changelog in Referr's Discord server.

Your account

You sign in with Discord or with a link sent to your email. With Discord, your Discord account's own standing governs whether you can use Referr at all. Adding a server needs the Manage Server permission there, which Discord itself checks, not something we take your word for.

Organizations

Projects belong to an organization. Its owners decide who else is in it and what each person can do, and they answer for how the organization uses Referr. An organization always has at least one owner. A server can belong to one organization at a time; its owners can transfer a project to another.

Paying for Referr

An organization's owners can put it on the paid plan, billed monthly or yearly, and buy domain slots for custom domains after the first. Paddle.com is the reseller and merchant of record for these orders, so Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase, and the receipt and any tax come from Paddle. Refunds follow the refund policy, which starts with a full refund within 30 days of the first payment. The plan renews until an owner cancels it from the Plan page, and a cancelled plan runs to the end of the time paid for. When it ends, or a payment fails, paid features carry on for 60 days, then the organization moves to the free plan with every number kept.

What you can do with it

Use Referr to make campaign links for servers you're allowed to manage, and to see who joined through them. Don't use it to work around Discord's own rules, to pull member data for anything outside attribution, or to overload the service on purpose.

Your campaigns and your server

You're responsible for what a campaign is named, where you post its link, and for telling your own members about the bot if that matters to them. Referr creates the Discord invite; what you do with it is yours to answer for.

Short links and your own domain

A short link has to lead somewhere a person would expect from the server that made it. Don't point one at phishing, malware, scams, or anything illegal, and don't use Referr to hide where a link really goes. We can turn off any link that does, without warning. You must own or control any domain you add to Referr, and you can remove it whenever you want.

Removing the bot, or leaving

Remove Referr's bot from a server whenever you want. Referr stops tracking new joins right away, and deletes what came from that server 30 days later, as the Privacy Policy explains. You can leave an organization, or delete one you own, at any time. We can suspend or end access to Referr for a server, an organization or an account, if it's being used to abuse the service or break these terms.

If Referr shuts down

If we ever stop running Referr, we'll email every organization's owners at least 60 days before. In that time you can take an export of your organization's data, and we refund any time you've paid for that runs past the day Referr stops.

No warranty

Referr is provided as it is. We don't promise it's fit for any particular purpose, free of bugs, or that a join will always be matched to the right campaign. Discord doesn't say which invite someone used, so some joins can only be worked out, and a few can't be at all; Referr shows those as unable to attribute rather than guess.

Liability

To the extent the law where you are lets us say so, Referr isn't liable for indirect or consequential loss from using it. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.

Changes to these terms

We'll update this page as Referr changes, and change the date at the top when we do. Using Referr after a change means you accept it.
